General Pest Information

Termites

Research indicates that one third of homes will encounter termite attack in Australia. The most common and destructive species in NSW are the coptotermes. They live in the centre of trees and stumps and can cause damage by the sheer number of insects in the colony. We use the most advanced technology to track termites which detects movement and moisture in the walls. We offer various termite treatment options including termite barrier systems for slabs and underneath homes, bait monitoring systems, reticulation systems and monitoring stations. The type of treatment will depend on the type of construction, property and species of termites. Never disturb termites if you detect them. Contact us immediately if you have detected termites.

Ants

Our treatment will depend on the type of ant species. The best treatments are in a gel or liquid form. We use ant stations and granules for colony control.

There are numberous species of Ants:

Black House Ants: The most common species

Small Eastern Brown Ants: Very small but they excavate large amounts of dirt around homes.

Green Ants: They have small nests and painful bites.

Carpenter Ants: Large ants that next in wood. They dont consume wood but leave sawdust behind.

Bees

Because bees are important for pollinating plants and crops, we only eradicate honey bees if it is absolutely essential. We prefer to arrange for a bee-keeper to remove the hive if they have nested in wall cavities of houses. Nests are often removed for safety issues relating to people with allergic reactions. The treatment involves sprays or nest removal.

Fleas

Fleas are prevalent in humid climates like the East Coast of Australia. Plagues are often caused by fleas that live on rats. Fleas are common in homes with pets. Flea eggs can lay dormant in carpets and soil for months and hatch when they find a suitable host such as a cat or dog. One flea can lay 500 eggs and can get out of control quickly under favourable conditions. Our treatment involves spraying pet blankets and the entire floor areas within a house as well as spraying of gardens and lawns.

Rodents

The 3 main rodents in NSW are Norway Rat, Roof Rat and mice. The Norway rat is the largest rodent and can reach up to 500g. They live in burrows in the ground, creek beds and anywhere accessible to water. They are warm-blooded and like roof cavities particularly in the winter months. Roof rats can cause electrical fires from chewing at wires in walls and roofs. The treatment method we use includes baits in roof cavites, rodent stations or glue boards to limit access.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches tend to lurk at night foraging scraps of food and searching for shelter in warm and humid environments. They often nest near warm appliances such as kettles, dishwashers, fridges and coffee machines. They have been know to short circuit electrical appliances which can cause hundreds of dollars of damage at a time. Roaches contaminate food with their droppings or dead egg castings. Some people develop alergies to this which may cause asthma attacks, food poisoning or other health disorders. The best treatment options are dusts & gels which cockroaches absorb through their body. This is a fast acting treatment that eradicates them.

German Cockroaches: are usually smaller than the average roach and they often multiply causing damage to wiring and appliances. The best treatment is often emptying of cupboards, accessing appliances, use of non-repellent sprays, gels and dusts.

Large Cockroaches: These are mainly found in wall and roof cavities The best treatment is pumping dust through man-holes and ventilation holes in brickwork. We eradicate in homes and commercial premises.

Spiders

NSW has many species of spiders. The biggest concern is the Funnel Web, Redback and White tail spiders. The best prevention is clean and tidy yards, not leaving footwear or clothes outside.

Funnel web: Lives underground in the warmer months and surface looking to mate. The male is usually smaller than the female and extremely venomous.

Redbacks: The female is the larger of the species and carries more venom than the male. They create erratic webs and are often found on the base of pot plants and window ledges. Fortunately, there are anti-venoms, but prevention is always better than cure.

White tail: Reactions to bites vary and some claim that it causes ulceration.
